Resentment is such a waste

Resentment is such a waste

I’d purchased some soil for my new garden.

Supposedly high-quality top-soil.
It certainly appeared so when it was delivered.
Beautiful, fine texture, easily handled and moved.

Job done. I could dig it, plant it, care for it easily.
The hard work was done!

And then it rained.
The soil solidified.
Then it dried.
And became like concrete.

So much so, that it proved really hard for me to break up and work with.

Didn’t seem to matter how much I dug it just didn’t want to become fine enough to sow the seeds I wanted to plant.

I sought out advice which informed me there must be some clay in the soil.

I felt disappointed.
I felt let down.

Ripped off even. After all, I’d been led to believe I had purchased top quality soil containing no clay.

At that point, I had a choice to make. I could be angry with the man who’d supplied the soil to me. I could resent that I’d paid him and not received what I’d paid for.

Or, I could follow the advice I’d received about how to improve the soil quality and move forward.

Following the advice and moving forward is what I chose to do because there is no point in me wasting my time, effort or energy in harbouring negative feelings for something that happened in the past.

I purchased the recommended cure for my soil.
Yesterday I applied it and dug it through the garden bed.
After it rained during the night, I dug over the garden again this morning and to my delight found that the texture is much more like what I expected it to be.
