I’d be using that experience to change women’s lives all these years later.

There I was at seventeen sitting in the interview not at all aware that my answer to his question would change my life and empower me to learn invaluable life lessons.

“This has always been a man’s role, why would I employ you rather than a man?”, he asked me.

My answer, “If I can do the job as well as a male, why wouldn’t you?”

Thankfully he did.

I was very naive.

I did what came naturally to me. I had to prove to him he made the right decision.

Looking back I’m pretty impressed with my younger self, especially as this happened in a very traditional community.

Years later he told me I was the best hire he’d ever made!

What I’ve learned in recent years, is that what comes naturally to me doesn’t come naturally to everyone.

It’s what enables me to support women working in leadership roles in male dominated industries thrive and flourish at work and in their lives.

I love that we all have unique natural skills that we can use to help others and make a difference in other’s lives.
