Can-do-it-ness.
What is that?Words are fun, right? Making up new ones to fit particular circumstances. Creating words from other words.
“I can’t”, my younger self said.
“There’s no such word as can’t, what you’re really saying is that you’re not willing to try,” said Grandma.
What Grandma meant was that you can do anything you want to do as long as you’re willing to try. And to fail. And to try again. And to keep on going until you achieve what you want to.
Consequently, I’d always try. There was no other appropriate response.
Grandma, bless her, always ensured I succeeded in whatever she’d asked me to do.
She taught me to try, even when part of me believed I couldn’t successfully complete the task. She inspired me to keep trying. She filled me with courage. There was no way I wanted to feel as though I’d let her down when obviously she believed in my capability before I did.
As an adult and an entrepreneur, I’ve found it’s me that I let down when I don’t do what I say I’m going to do. When some part of me says I can’t.
That’s when I choose to switch on my can-do-it-ness. What that means, for me, is that if I really want to do something I’ll find a way.
Often times that means I seek support from others to ensure I follow through on the commitments I’ve made to myself.
I’ve lost count of how many times over the years I’ve committed to doing something that was important either to me or my business. Mostly no one else would ever know of my commitment. Time after time I’d drop the ball. I’d let myself down. I’d not follow through on my commitments to myself. For me that feels crappy and often I’ve not been kind to myself in that process. When I do that it doesn’t inspire me to be brave and carry on.
What I’ve found does help me is knowing that someone else has my back. That someone else knows what I’ve committed to accomplishing. Someone cares whether I follow through. They call me out if I don’t. Someone helps me keep my commitments to myself. They hold me accountable. They give me feedback. They encourage me.
At last! Someone cares whether I do or don’t. Now, YOU can have that too.
How many times have you planned to do something and then you don’t do it?
What if you could solve that forever?
