These are Michelangelo’s wise words after spending four years lying on his back painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
That project took consistency. It took perseverance, and dedication, determination and sheer hard work. After all, it can’t have been pleasant lying on your back way up there for four years with paint dripping on you.
Chances are it didn’t even look that great for most of the time. Then, little by little, piece by piece it all started to become apparent. The piece of art took shape after much hard work.
Michelangelo put in many years to achieve his success. He spent much time preparing, he was consistently active, he trusted himself when doubters from the floor couldn’t visualise the result as he could, and through it all he was the hero in his own story.
Michelangelo made choices and decisions in the process of gaining his mastery that took courage. He made those choices consciously and proactively, otherwise the world would never have been able to enjoy the masterpiece he created.
