No man is an island!
I’d heard it before. Maybe you have too.I’d never fully understood it.
Nor had I translated it.
Never even thought about …
No woman is an island!
That thought didn’t even enter my head.
For most of my life I behaved as though I was an island. I believed I could be. I believed I was.
Rocky cliffs.
Rough seas.
Rocks and crags.
No lighthouses.
No easy way out. No easy way in.
All the while I was telling myself I could do it alone. I’m head strong. I’m independent. It felt safer somehow.
I’d spent my whole life trying to fit in. Trying to belong. Somewhere. Anywhere.
I guess I’d gotten to the point where it seemed preferable to do it all alone.
It just was.
Easier than being rejected.
Easier than feeling like a misfit. A freak.
Life’s shown me that being part of a supportive community of like-minded souls is beyond anything I could have ever imagined.
No longer am I doing it all alone.
I belong there.
I fit in there.
