I saw your ad … BUT, THERE’S A MISTAKE IN IT!

I can’t not tell you, cos it’s cost you money. And if I don’t tell you it’s gonna keep costing you even more money.

You’ve just got to fix it!

Seriously, when I read the newspaper each day. When I look at bill boards as I drive past. When I hear advertising on the radio or see it on TV.

It appears to me as though the advertising has mistakes in it.

And I get to wondering why the business owner would spend money on advertising with mistakes.

Here’s the thing. The business owner may not realise there are mistakes.

They are probably, usually when I speak with them, blissfully happy that their ad looks or sounds great. To them. And to the sales rep who sold them the advertising space.

BUT, more importantly, is it making them any money?

My guess, is that it isn’t.

Let me ask you …

Does your advertising make enough money to pay for the advertising?

Does it even make you any extra money than if you hadn’t advertised?

What I see so often, and it breaks my heart, is that business owners pay good money for advertising that they believe will bring more clients, more revenue, more profits into their business.

And it just doesn’t.
All it does is earn the advertising rep commission and make money for the advertising medium used.

Essentially it’s just wasting the business owner’s money.

Not because the business isn’t a great business.

Not because it doesn’t provide great service.

Not because it doesn’t deliver great value.

Not because it doesn’t have a fabulous reputation.

Not because it’s current customers aren’t thrilled to bits to do business with it and refer to friends.

No.
None of that.

Simply put the advertising fails to make money because it doesn’t follow the formula for great marketing that makes you money.

While it gets your name out there, it doesn’t bring you additional customers or revenue as you expected or hoped it would. Hey, on many occasions it may not even bring you any additional business at all.

This is specifically important as we head into the holiday season because many businesses spend far more on advertising at this time of the year than any other. Why? Because they want to make more sales and therefore more money.

But if your marketing doesn’t follow the formula. If it doesn’t bring you more customers. If it doesn’t make you money. Then haven’t you just wasted more money than ever?

The sad thing is that most people who sell advertising will tell you that it’s all about getting your name out there. While that is true to a very small extent, your marketing and advertising must make your business money or it just isn’t a viable investment.

After all, if your advertising doesn’t make you money. If it doesn’t pay for itself. Then why would you waste money on it?

The good news is that when you use the formula, your marketing and advertising can and does make you money.
