I’d hit a wall, and the bus got me at the same time.

I crashed and burned.

Yep, you guessed it. I’d burned out. AGAIN. For the umpteenth time! The worst burn out up to then!

I’d been giving out all the time. Bits of me. To my kids. To my clients. To everyone who wanted a piece of me if the truth’s known.

I was all used up.

My tank was empty. My well was dry.

I’d not been caring for myself. And neither had anyone else.

I was giving all the time. There was no receiving in it at all.

I’m not blaming anyone here, cos the truth is it’s our own responsibility to care for ourself. Period. And I wasn’t. At all.

This all happened a good few years ago now. The online communities and help that exist now weren’t around back then. Locally, there wasn’t anyone round to help me either.

I truly was alone!

I remember feeling like a complete and absolute failure. I had this business that was supporting me and my kids. I absolutely loved the work I was doing. My clients loved the results they received from working with me.

Yet, because this thing I loved was sucking the life out of me and leaving me a burned out wreck, I was too scared to keep going. My fear was too great. My sense of aloneness was overwhelming.

On the outside I looked successful and my business looked successful.

On the inside I sure didn’t feel successful.

I literally walked away from my business.

I had neither the energy nor the support I knew I needed to rebuild it.

I knew enough to know that I couldn’t rebuild it in the same way I’d built it originally.

I also knew I couldn’t rebuild it alone.

What I’d have loved would have been for someone to come alongside of me as I rebuilt my business.

To support me.

To guide me.

To challenge me.

To hold me accountable.

To be there when I needed an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, an arm to hug me.

To happy dance and celebrate with me.

And when that happens, as it always does, if you don’t have sufficient support you’ll quickly revert to doing it the way you always have because that’s easier and it’s just how we humans function.
